- The Lifetime Published
Poetry

Clare’s second volume was published in 1821, soon after the fourth edition
of Poems Descriptive. It
did not enjoy sufficiently good sales to justify a second edition, but it was
reissued several years later. It was
published in two volumes, the first of which contained an engraving of the
Hilton portrait of Clare as a frontispiece.
When the book was reissued, an engraving of Clare’s cottage in
Helpstone, added as a frontispiece to the second volume, was the only
alteration.
